Everyone knows of the use that can koozies and bottle koozies have in keeping your beverages cool and preventing your hands from getting wet from the condensation. Now, the insulating properties of these can and bottle koozies is the physical reason behind their functional performance. The insulating effect of the can koozies is due to the fact that the material used is usually neoprene in the good quality ones and simply open cell foam in the case of cheap can koozies. But did you know of a unique application I came across for cheap can koozies? Well, here it is in this article.
I was visiting with a customer the other day and happened to be in their shipping department as I was being given the proverbial ten cent plant tour. And I saw that they were shipping some parts that were extremely fragile to their customer. When it comes to shipping fragile parts, there are several expensive ways to ensure that the parts do not move in transit and bang against each other. This can cause chipping of surfaces, nicks and dents and this can be cause for rejections of the hardware being received by the customer. Foam in place is one such expensive method and in some cases is warranted.
However, what happened in this case was that the shipping clerk decided to order a bunch of cheap can koozies and used them to blanket each piece separately and then put them all together in a shipping box and got the job done very effectively. He thus prevented the parts from hitting each other since each had a shock absorbing sleeve which in this case was the cheap koozies that sheathed each part. And because of his innovative thinking, he accomplished the task for a fraction of the cost!
